Dr. Ekman's Approach

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most empirically-validated treatment for mood disorders such as depression and anxiety.  Dr. Kate Ekman utilizes a CBT approach to treating mood disorders such as anxiety, folding these evidence-based practices into the popular Social Thinking and Zones of Regulation curriculum developed by Michelle Garcia Winner.  Children with similar needs meet in small groups where they can connect with other children sharing their struggles.  This creates a validating and supportive environment for children to learn about how emotions are expressed and develop skills in managing their "big feelings" and impulses in order to facilitate social connections, foster self-esteem, and reach their full potential.
